DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCES

INTRODUCTION

The Department of Environmental Sciences under the faculty of science was established in 2009 as teaching cum hands-on-training department at Vaishnavi Mahavidyalaya Wadwani. The understanding of environment, ecology and climate change is important in rapidly developing world so to development should be in hand with sustainability.

The department offers Environmental sciences as optional course in Bachelor of Science degree. The aim of the department is to furnish the students with a comprehensive understanding of key environmental issues, and use of a wide range of environmental tools and methods so that they can play leading role in sustainable development and development and application of environmental policies and management.

The department of Environmental Science is committed to the principle of harnessing science and technology for the benefit of humankind.

MISSION

  1. To train students and educate the broader public in the Geosciences and Environmental Sciences.
  2. To create and disseminate fundamental knowledge about Environment, Ecology and Biodiversity.
  3. To integrate, synthesize, and apply scientific and engineering knowledge to societal problems, such as the sustainable use of energy and water resources, watershed management, the identification and mitigation of risks posed by natural hazards like droughts and floods, and the consequences of Anthropological activities on the environment.

Our efforts to accomplish our objectives will be characterized by a focus on discovery at the interface of disciplines and approaches; a collegial, collaborative, and inspiring environment for faculty, students, and staff. In addition to coursework designed to help students become scientifically literate, the Department also strives to develop critical and independent thinking skills in the students it serves through workshops, trainings and student research opportunities.

FACILITIES

The department is equipped with state of the art facilities and equipment’s required for practical, various projects and research activities.The college has central instrumentation facility which has been used by all science departments which includes Autoclave, Incubator, Hot air oven, Colorimeter, pH meter, Distilled water facility, Centrifuge, Digital weighing balance etc. and department has all glassware’s required to conduct practical.

The college has central library which has all necessary books, journals and manuals required for academic activities.

  1. Seasonal changes in levels of zinc and mercury in tissues of lamellidens marginalis collected from Sukhana Dam: Presented at International web conference on recent advances in freshwater aquaculture: Published in International Journal for innovative research in multidisciplinary field.
